This past spring we hosted a 10-week theater arts class, which culminated in a free Showcase Performance featuring a 30-minute Comedy, a 40-minute Mystery, and musical selections from The Lion King.
Plans for our spring 2024 semester have not yet been finalized. Below information pertained to our spring 2023 class, and may be helpful for interested new families to see our class structure and vision. Details, schedule, and fees are subject to change! Currently we are working diligently on our fall performance of Pirates of Penzance - performance details can be found under our Performances tab.
Who: Students 2nd grade and up. Younger students are welcome if they have an older sibling involved, and if they can take direction well from their instructors. Students ages 9 and up can be dropped off. One parent must stay to supervise children under 9.
What: Instruction in singing, dancing, and acting skills, including voice projection, expression, timing, and portrayal. All students will have the opportunity to build skills in singing and acting no matter what level they are starting at. For our Showcase Performance, students will be assigned to one of three groups: Principal, Understudy or Chorus. Each group will be determined by current skill, not age.

- Students at the Principal Level (about 15 students) will have already mastered projection and memorization and have the ability to take direction. They will be refining their skills in characterization, expression, and body language. Principals will be rehearsing and performing a humorous murder mystery.
- The Understudy Level (about 15 students) must have some ability to project, but may require more development of this skill. They should be able to memorize lines and take direction, and will focus on developing their timing, characterization, expression, and body language skills. Understudies will be rehearsing and performing a comedy.
- Our Chorus Level (up to 30 students) will focus on choreography and expression. They will be rehearsing and performing a medley from The Lion King. Our Chorus group will likely end early on some weeks and will be welcome to leave if they aren’t waiting for siblings. They will also have the option to stay and work on Lion King related activities.
- All of our students will be singing selected vocals from The Lion King. Students who are assigned to Principal or Understudy roles will have the option of learning the choreography and performing it alongside the Chorus Level in the Showcase.
When: Fridays, beginning February 10th, from 9:30am-12:30pm, culminating in a (free!) Showcase on the evening of Friday, April 21. We will have extended rehearsal hours on April 21. Our Showcase will be simple, without the costumes, sets, and professional lighting that characterize our large-scale productions. We will take Good Friday, 4/7/23 off.
